'Queen' Saves Stella

Stella, a magnificent four-year-old Mare, was scheduled to be shot within three days if she wasn't rescued. She had become aggressive, hormonal, and very difficult to handle. With the help of our Queen product and the 'Horses without Humans' rescue organization, Stella got a new lease on life.

On Friday, June 3, 2022, Horses without Humans, a Florida rescue organization, first heard about Stella, a beautiful four-year-old Friesian/Saddlebred cross mare in Wisconsin. Her owner was planning to shoot her in a field on Monday.

She displayed aggressive, stallion-like behavior and was challenging to handle at best and extremely dangerous at times. Stella’s vet at the time felt she was suffering from a hormonal imbalance suspected to be caused by a tumor on her ovaries that would likely cost thousands of dollars to operate.  

Horses without Humans stepped in and were able to transport Stella to another farm in Wisconsin, where she waited for coggins and health papers while Horses without Humans made arrangements for the long journey to their farm in Florida. On June 13, Stella was finally on the way to Florida with the help of dedicated volunteers. When she arrived at the Horses without Humans farm, she was thoroughly evaluated to assess her health problems.

Her behavior oscillated between nice and not so nice, and at times, the raging hormones made her almost impossible to handle. She was very territorial about her space and was striking at the person coming to feed her, squealing and trying to pin some people against the wall, and charging others. She was tight in the back and unable to move forward. Arrangements were made with the University of Florida to examine her, but the most significant and most immediate assistance came when ScoopRX reached out, and Marian Nilsen donated a bucket of the new Queen formula for mares.

Stella had not allowed anyone to come close and is now permitting Camber, her handler, to touch her shoulders and get close to her front legs. In the pen, Stella is holding her own neck down and is letting Camber pet her, which would not have happened a few days ago. She yields her shoulder away, pays attention, and does it all without any squealing, arguing, or fighting. She turns into Camber and willingly participates in her "join up" exercises and shows both willingness and submission. All this is remarkable progress in any time frame, but after only five days, it is truly astonishing and a testament to the powerful veterinary-approved science-based active ingredients and formulation of the ScoopRX Queen product.

Knowing Stella’s best chance was to have the suspected tumor on her ovaries removed, Horses without Humans  had arranged a surgical consult with the University of Florida. The story behind Queen 

 

I would like to share the story of  “ Bit of Ritz,” or as we call her, “Ritzi”. Since the day Ritzi was born she has been curious, friendly, confident and very sweet. As a foal she accepted all lessons quickly and easily. She is beautiful, engaged and she never says no. She is what dreams are made of.

The first 3 years of her life she enjoyed being in a small herd. She was handled regularly and occasionally spent time staying in the barn. As a three year old she had a pasture accident requiring stitches and medication. This accident really highlighted her incredible temperament. She had practiced loading but had never trailered alone. She handled the trailer ride and all treatments like a pro. She remained bright, happy and her sweet nature earned her a fan club. Later that year was slowly introduced to becoming a riding horse. And again her temperament remained her finest quality. As a four year old Ritz developed allergies. The vet treated the allergies and she seemed better. But they came back. We eventually figured out how to manage them and everything seemed fine

Until she was 6… The change in her character started with a couple little things and then several little things and then bigger issues until my sweet girl was replaced with an unruly basket case. It was as if she was not comfortable in her own skin. She was so herd bound there were times I thought she would injure herself . It got to the point that when she was in her turn-out and another horse was brought in or moved, she was out of her mind, galloping and running blind smashing into the fences. Undersaddle she went from overachiever to protesting at the smallest request. She was much more interested in what was going on outside the arena to the point she would just stop at the gate. This was all so completely out of character for her. Up until then, she had been a sweet horse that never said no, she loved connecting with everyone and was especially interested in learning.  

 The vet ruled out any physical problem, trainers provided advice, we tried different management but Ritzy just was not herself. I was devastated. I felt that I had failed her. Desperate to find some relief for my mare, I told my story to the team at ScoopRx. A week later a 3 pound jar of powder arrived marked “ Special delivery for the Queen ♥️ ” 

Ritzi was the first horse who tried Queen. I started her on the loading dose of 2 scoops twice daily and within days my sweet girl returned. I do not say this to convince you to run out and buy Queen. Ritz healed from the pasture accident. However there were several forms of “stress” that contributed to an imbalance in her digestive system. (Medication, trailering, a change in her environment) As the imbalance continued her once healthy intestinal tract became inflamed leading to permeability which allowed toxins into her. Eventually her  immune system became overburdened and she developed allergies. 

The vets approached the allergies by suppressing the immune system. This worked great on the surface however underneath the surface an inflamed, leaky gut  and compromised immune system triggered her hormonal system went into overdrive and she was what I referred to as a hot mess! 

When I treated the allergies, that only treated the symptom, and did not address the root cause of what was going on in her gut. Then things snowballed, leading to hormonal and behavioral issues.

The reason things changed so dramatically when I put her on the Queen product is because it is not just a hormone balancer, but it addresses the underlying causes that were responsible for Ritzi’s symptoms. The Queen product treated her body as a whole. It did this successfully with several active ingredients working together  to restore balance in the systems of her body. Recently Ritz has started the transition from a lower level dressage horse to an upper level horse which is extremely exciting!  But it also requires a lot to keep her from becoming depleted. They say horses teach us. Ritz has taught me a lot already. She was born in my barn and I promised her I would always do my best to take care of her. I may have let her down once but I am grateful for the lesson it taught me.
